The Canada and Greenland ventures may be looked at in that context, as an attempt to secure from other sources the natural resources that the neocons sought to rob from Russia. The plan to carve up Russia and lay hands on its natural wealth, the plan of which the failed Ukrainian war was to be a key stage, has now been discontinued by Trump---not without some second thoughts, as initially he seemed intent on following through with it. But it appears a more informed assessment of odds has convinced him to cut free of the sunk costs, and extricate the US from this increasingly hopeless venture.

But, in order to MAGA, another source for the natural wealth must be found, and found urgently, because the mismanaged US economy is already tottering. The low-hanging fruit in that regard is first, Canada, essentially defenseless against the US and possessing many of the same resources as Siberia; and second, the Arctic, to which the anschluss of Canada and Greenland will give the US equal or better access than Russia's. I have a hunch that the spineless and recently ejected from power Trudeau has already been offered a position in the coming colonial administration of Canada, as a sort of a Pétain or Quisling for our era.

The Middle East policy can also be viewed in that context. The unquestioned US dominance over the natural resources of the Persian Gulf "must" be asserted, and to this end, Iran must be broken. While a direct US assault on Iran would turn out to be a disaster far worse than Afghanistan, the odds change if proxies can be involved, namely Turkey (which regards Iran as the major strategic rival), the recently maidaned Syria, already engaged in ethnic cleansing of Shiites, and Israel, which can use nukes against Iran with relative impunity (while the US would risk global armageddon if it made a nuclear strike with its own hands). Israel will first be extricated, per fas et nefas, from the Gaza war it has hopelessly mired itself in, as a preparatory step.

So I expect that Trump will abandon the failed Ukraine, and pivot to the Middle East and Iran, while at the same time pursuing an increasingly aggressive policy towards Canada.
