An interesting aspect of this is that al-Sharaa, for all his CIA/MI6 links, is primarily a creature of Erdogan. But he was allowed, and apparently encouraged to cooperate with Israel, even as Israel bombs and invades his holdings.

In fact, at the height of the Israeli campaign in the south of Syria, al-Sharaa was invited to a meeting with Erdogan; when he came back, he started the campaign of atrocities against Alawites and Christians in Latakia province, evidently to distract his followers from the Israeli depredations.

This hints that maybe the apparent hostility between Israel and Turkiye is not as deep as it is made to appear. They certainly have many shared interests.

I see no surprise here. This was the whole purpose of the U.S./Israel war against Syria.
